My Fantasy Book is Waiting for You

On Tuesday, June 9th, my new fantasy novel, Daughter of Two Realms, was officially released and ready for purchase on Amazon in paperback, ebook, or audiobook format. •

In case you missed the notice, or haven't gotten around to purchasing it yet, here's a look at the synopsis to whet your appetite:

Kendra Swift doesn't believe in God, much to the dismay of her devout mother. She studies faith like a scientist studies bacteria—with distance, logic, and zero personal investment. When an intense dream leads her to a hidden, ancient book, everything she once believed unravels in an instant, and two crucial truths are revealed in its scripture that she can't ignore.

God is real. And she is not who she thinks she is.

What follows pulls her into worlds she never knew existed. As she uncovers the truth behind ancient prophecies, she learns that the lines between myth and reality are not as clear as she once believed, and that she is connected to those hidden worlds in ways she never imagined. As an ancient conflict spirals toward its breaking point, Kendra must choose who she will become before a war centuries in the making destroys not only Heaven and Hell, but the human world caught between them.

Now, before anyone panics, I should probably remind everyone of something very important.

This book is fiction.

It isn't intended to promote, criticize, challenge, or disprove anyone's religious beliefs. The angels, demons, Heaven, Hell, prophecies, and mythology in this story are simply pieces of a fictional world built from various religious sources, my imagination and curiosity, and a lifelong love of asking "What if?"

I know religion can be a sensitive subject, and I sincerely hope you will approach this story in the spirit it was written: as an adventure. After all, at its heart, it isn't really about religion.

It's about a woman who discovers who she really is.

It's about realizing the universe is much bigger and more complicated than she believed.

It's about accepting responsibility when responsibility was the last thing she wanted.

And maybe most importantly, it's about realizing that things that are labelled as good or evil are often not as black and white as they first appear.

The book touches on some serious topics. However, in it, you will also find:

Angels.

And demons.

And hidden books.

And ancient prophecies.

And flying.

Because if I was going to write a fantasy novel, I wanted to have some fun, dang it!

For those of you who normally read mysteries and thrillers, don't worry. I haven't completely abandoned my roots. Daughter of Two Realms still contains plenty of secrets, discoveries, twists, and questions that need answering. Hopefully, there will be some discoveries that surprise you and some adventures that excite you.

Most of all, I hope the book entertains you, but also makes you think. In my opinion, that is what a good fiction book does.

As for my sequel to The RH Factor, it is still in progress. The book is titled, Dying in Color, and I expect to finish it later this year. It simply got pushed aside for a moment by a very determined fantasy novel that demanded my attention. Pax and Regina are still out there solving murders, and their world, unfortunately for the victims, continues to be not quite as safe as it used to be. And here’s a little hint of what’s coming—Julie has returned and is weaving herself back into Pax and Regina’s lives.

I hope you'll give Daughter of Two Realms a chance. It's probably the most surprising book I've ever written. I didn’t see it evolving into what it became when I wrote the first draft almost nine years ago.

It's certainly the one that surprised me the most.

And after spending so much time with the main characters, Kendra and Sam, and all their angel and demon friends, in a world that refused to leave my imagination, I'm excited, terrified, and thrilled to let you all finally experience it too.
